The Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa is the country's national museum. The Maori term "Te Papa Tongarewa" means "Container of Treasures".
Located on the waterfront in Wellington, it is the largest and most popular museum in the city.
The Te Papa museum contains artwork from the National Art Gallery, which opened in 1936, a history collection and many artifacts from Maori and Pacific cultures.
